Viewable from the laneway along the east side of 915 Dupont Street, every Wednesday – Friday from Dusk to 3 a.m.

Window Series 01 invites viewers to witness intimate expressions of movement in the urban landscape. Rooted in the concept of dancing freely in your room, the installation brings together six performers, each responding to one of six prompts:

THE END OF A LONG DAY
YOU MADE A NEW FRIEND
MISSING A LOVED ONE
REALLY FUCKING ANGRY
WAITING FOR YOUR WATER TO BOIL
CAN’T SLEEP

Improvised movements convey the emotions and motions of everyday domesticity, exploring themes of privacy, performance, and viewership. Pre-recorded, the performers are uninfluenced by the presence of a live audience, allowing for unrestrained expression. Conversely, viewed from the street, passersby bear witness to someone dancing in a uniquely private moment. The solitude of the movement’s initial expression against the projection of their image onto a public surface; an act of witnessing that is as intimate as it is unfiltered, creates a shared space that exists somewhere between private and public life.

Originally exhibited at the corner of Northcote Avenue and Argyle Street in Toronto from June – July 2023, this second iteration of Window Series 01 takes over the Project Space windows.
